Employer Responsibility
Sitterwise is a referral service for caregivers. The caregiver works directly for you; not Sitterwise. We make every reasonable effort to screen our caregivers including background checks, reference screens, and in-person interviews. You agree to hold Sitterwise harmless from any damages incurred by sitters we refer. You agree not to hire Sitterwise caregivers directly through them, but to always go through the agency.

Medical Waiver

In the event your child needs emergency medical treatment, you give Sitterwise and its caregivers permission to seek treatment from a licensed physician at any medical emergency room.

FAQs

  • What are the qualities you look for in a caregiver?
    - At least 18 years of age - Dependable transportation - Solid childcare experience - Playful and engaging - Active and in good physical shape - Well groomed and professional in appearance - Technologically saavy (computer use and cell phone/texting is a must) - Responsible and reliable with high morals
  • What is the compensation?
Our caregivers receive $15 to $21 per hour depending on the number of children. We have a four-hour minimum, so you can expect to earn a minimum of $60 each time you work. Jobs are often longer than 4 hours. Of the $22 to $28 per hour charged to the client, $7 per hour is paid in commissions to Sitterwise at the end of each month. The remaining amount, plus any gratuity, is the caregiver's to keep. For most jobs, caregivers are paid in cash. Private residence clients can pay by check. Some caregivers choose to offer a credit card payment option using a service such as Venmo or PayPal.
  • Am I an employee or an independent contractor?
Caregivers are independent contractors and should plan to pay taxes on their earnings using a Schedule-C. Be sure to keep track of mileage and equipment expenses (toys, games, crafts) so that you can deduct these items. If you work a Playtime Pros event, you will be paid as an employee for that event and will receive a W2 at the beginning of the year.
  • How much notice will I get for a job?
We give as much notice as possible for jobs, but since some jobs come in just the night before or the day-of, we do always have spontaneous jobs come up! The more flexible and spontaneous you can be, the more we will think of you for other jobs that are planned farther in advance.
  • Where will I work?
We serve a variety of families. Some are staying at hotels either on vacation or for business, while other families are local residents looking for occasional help. This is a fun and exciting job that gives you the opportunity to meet new people and experience different surroundings.
  • What do I need to bring to a job?
Caregivers need to bring toys and games to every job. Most of our caregivers have a rolling suitcase that they fill with toys and games for all ages. These items do not have to be new, so feel free to check out Goodwill and yard sales for finds. The dollar store and Michael's have $1 coloring books, and Target has Crayola crayons on sale regularly. Stock up on $1 crafts at Michael's or Hobby Lobby, too.
  • Can I swim with the children?
Yes! As long as you are comfortable taking children to the pool, it is great to do so. Be sure to communicate with parents about this and to keep your eyes wide open for hazards and children in distress.
  • Can I bring my own child along on jobs?
No, unfortunately clients expect to have ONLY the caregiver come to the job. If you have a child or children of your own, you will need to arrange care for them during the times you are working with Sitterwise.
  • Are there any other requirements?
As part of the onboarding process, you'll complete several forms. All of these items are available online and can be completed quickly from your phone, tablet, or computer. Caregiver Agreement Form Statement of Agreement Background Check Authorization A 20-question quiz showing your understanding of our guidelines W4 and I9 (for Playtime Pros event work) Show ID (Driver's License & Social Security Card) You will also be asked to become CPR certified if you do not already have proof of certification. Additionally, there is a in-depth background check for childcare providers that you will be apply for within seven days after accepting an offer of employment. More information will available at your interview.
